Today we had the pleasure of a visit from Liz Marquis, Director of the Energy Agency, during her visit to the islands. She met with Dan and afterwards with Point and Sandwick Trust staff at Aros an Rubha to learn more about the Energy Support Unit (ESU) and the innovative work being done by us and the Trust to tackle fuel poverty support. The ESU provides an innovative system that delivers direct financial assistance to residents via their fuel accounts, offering an alternative to the legal restrictions that currently prevent supplying electricity directly to consumers from community-produced wind.
Liz Marquis, well-known across the energy support networks, is an excellent speaker on energy efficiency and fuel poverty. She, along with her dedicated staff at the Energy Agency and its non-profit subsidiary, Energy Agency Renewables Ltd, aims to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Their mission is to promote sustainability locally by offering free, impartial, and expert advice on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable transport to households, businesses, and communities in South West Scotland.
