Through its Energy Support Unit (ESU), Muirneag has launched a pilot home repair service to fill a critical gap in support for low-income households needing small but urgent repairs. With local authority budgets stretched and tradespeople often unable to take on minor jobs, many residents are left without help for issues that directly impact their health and safety. PST is proud to fund this new initiative and is already seeing the real difference it’s making across the community.
The soft launch began a few months ago, with Muirneag completing a handful of jobs to understand the scale and type of work required. Early cases included repairing roof leaks, sealing flat roofs to prevent water damage and fire risk, and clearing overgrown paths to reduce trip hazards. Each repair, while small, brought immediate safety and reassurance. Encouragingly, local tradespeople have welcomed the scheme, recognising that it helps free them up for larger pieces of work/projects, while offering households important practical support. The pilot shows just how vital a service it is, and we’re pleased to be offering it to the Point and Sandwick community, as well as independently elsewhere.
