Yesterday, Stewart and Dan had the pleasure of attending the Outer Hebrides COP (Communities) event organised by Community Energy Scotland (CES), Sniffer, and Community Interest Company, Climate Hebrides at the beautiful Cnoc Soilleir building in Daliburgh. The event drew over 40 attendees in person, including members from local resident groups, UHI, HIE, and other community organisations, as well as representatives from the Scottish Government and NatureScot, with additional participants joining online.
The day-long event focused on discussions about climate change, adaptation, and mitigation actions in Uist, Barra, and the Outer Hebrides, including practical sessions addressing climate risks in Uist and how local people can prepare, as well as local efforts to decarbonise and achieve NetZero. Following introductions and a presentation by Brian Whitington, Chief Executive of Climate Hebrides, further presentations were delivered by representatives from the Scottish Government for their CC National Adaptation Plan, Sniffer, and the Island Centre for Net Zero, followed by breakout sessions.
